چکیده

Jugular vein aneurysm can mimic more serious abnormalities and produce cosmetic difficulties for patients. The existence of marked asymmetry in the sizes of normal jugular veins is known from anatomic studies. 1 We present two cases in which asymmetric enlargement of the jugular vein was misinterpreted as disease in other structures. In each case, the correct diagnosis was made using ultrasound, and in one case, examination using duplex Doppler imaging documented that a pulsatile mass was venous in nature. Based on these cases, we attempted to evaluate the frequency of asymmetry in jugular vein diameters. This information should make sonographers aware of this normal variation in size between right and left jugular veins, and help them to avoid the pitfalls associated with ascribing this asymmetry to a pathologic condition.

Preoperative ultrasonographic findings of internal jugular veins and carotid arteries in kidney transplant recipients

BACKGROUND Hemodialysis via the internal jugular vein (IJV) has been widely used for patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, as they have a higher risk of arterial diseases. We investigated the ultrasonographic findings of the IJV and carotid artery (CA) in recipients of kidney transplantation (KT) and identified factors influencing IJV/CA abnormalities. METHODS We enrolled 120...

jugular vein and the subclavian vein. The left brachiocephalic vein (LBCV) usually passes superior and anterior to the aortic arch (1). In rare cases, this vein follows an anomalous course. This anomaly was first described by Kerschner in 1888 (2) and a double LBCV described by Takata in 1992 (3). The incidence of an aberrant left brachiocephalic vein (ALBCV) with congenital heart disease is 0....

The efficacy of inferior vena cava diameters and the jugular vein in assessing fluid resuscitation

Objective: Fluid resuscitation is necessary in almost all critical patients. The central venous pressure (CVP) is a well-established method of assessing resuscitation. Recently, there have been attempts to investigate less invasive methods like the diameters of inferior vena cava (IVC) or the jugular vein. We aimed to investigate this method in our research. Methods: Seventy eight critical...
